15-Minute Flatbread Pizza Fix!

Making pizzas on flatbreads like naan has been one of my go-to meals since college! The ingredients are inexpensive, they come together fast, and theyโ€™re packed with flavor and texture.

Theyโ€™re also perfect for cleaning out the fridge. Just grab whatever veggies or leftover proteins youโ€™ve got, pile them on naan with some cheese, and bake until golden.

Even now, long past college, I still make these all the time. My family requests them constantly, and theyโ€™re such a fun dinner to make with the kids!

Naan

Naan and pitas are both yeast-raised flatbreads, but naan includes egg and yogurt for a thicker, softer texture.

Pitas work, but I prefer naan for flatbread pizzas. Any thicker flatbread worksโ€”just watch thinner ones so they donโ€™t overbake.

I buy a 6-pack of naan, use a couple for pizzas, and the rest throughout the week. Here are a few favorite ways to use it:

Flatbread Pizza Recipe Ingredients

  • Pizza sauce: Raoโ€™sยฎ (plain or Margherita) has great flavor and texture. Raoโ€™s marinara or Muir Glenยฎ fire-roasted tomatoes also work well.
  • Rotisserie chicken: Use leftover rotisserie or grilled chicken, or skip it for a vegetarian option.
  • Veggies: Add any veggies. This version uses bell peppers and red onion. See variations below for more ideas.
  • Mozzarella cheese: Mozzarella melts well and pairs with everything. Add Parmesan after baking if desired.
  • Fresh basil: Not required, but a sprinkle of fresh basil adds a bright, fresh flavor boost.

Quick Tip

Pre-cooked and seasoned chicken is a total time saver on its own, but to save even more time, you can purchase rotisserie chicken meat already pulled from the bones and shredded or diced โ€” a lot of grocery stores sell this conveniently prepared chicken!

  • Margherita pizza: Follow this Naan Pizza where I spread pizza sauce on naan, add mozzarella and thin tomato slices. Finish with fresh basil after baking.
  • Meat lovers: Throw bacon, sausage, pepperoni, ham, etc. on top of your sauce (try Alfredo sauce instead) and cheese.
  • Veggie packed: Add a variety of different veggies on top of your Flatbread Pizzas. Try mushrooms, artichokes, zucchini, broccoli, tomatoes, olives, fresh corn, spinach, arugula, etc.
  • Salad Pizza: Give thisย Caesar Salad Pizza a try!
  • Sauce on top: Drizzle on some fresh basil-pesto like we do in this Pesto Pizza, BBQ sauce, ranch, buffalo sauce, etc.
  • Make garlic bread: Add some butter, cheese, garlic, and salt or use garlic naan as the base (instead of plain naan).
  • Change your cheese: Try a different cheese or a combination of a few different types of cheeses.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 (8.8-ounce) package naan I like original Stonefire Naan (2 breads in a package)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil divided, plus additional oil for serving if desired
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce I like Raoโ€™s Margherita Pizza Sauce or Raoโ€™s Marinara or Muir Glen fire-roasted crushed tomatoes
  • 3 ounces mozzarella cheese very thinly sliced, 2/3 cup
  • 1 cup rotisserie chicken or other prepared leftover chicken
  • 3/4 cup bell pepper slices red and orange, or just use 1 bell pepper!
  • 1/3 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • Small basil leaves optional
  • Salt optional

Instructionsย

  • Preheat oven to 400ยฐF. While the oven is heating, line a large sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone liner (donโ€™t use wax paper or tin foil). Lining the pan is important so the naan doesnโ€™t get too crisp on bottom. Set both naans on the lined sheet. Lightly drizzle the naans with olive oil (about 1/2 teaspoon per naan). Bake in the oven for 2 minutes, then remove. This will keep the naan from getting soggy!
  • Very thinly slice the peppers and red onion. Chop the chicken into small pieces.
  • While naans are baking, thinly slice the mozzarella. Pull the naan out of the oven after 2 minutes and spread 1/4 cup pizza sauce evenly on each naan, leaving about 1/2-inch of crust around the outside.
  • Divide sliced mozzarella cheese evenly between the naans, arranging over the sauce and pressing in gently. Dividing evenly between the 2 pizzas, top each with peppers, chicken, and red onion slices. Press these toppings in very gently. Return pizzas to the oven for 7โ€“9 minutes, or until cheese is melted and veggies are crisp tender.
  • Remove and allow to cool for 1 minute. If desired, drizzle each pizza with another 1/2 teaspoon olive oil, then top with shredded basil and a few sprinkles of salt if desired. Use a sharp serrated knife to cut into slices and enjoy immediately.

Recipe Notes

There are endless ways to make Flatbread Pizza! Here are some ideas:
  • Margherita Pizza: Top naan with pizza sauce, mozzarella, and thinly sliced garden-fresh tomatoes. Top with fresh basil when you take it out of the oven.
  • Meat Lovers: Add bacon, sausage, pepperoni, ham, etc. on top of your sauce (try Alfredo sauce instead) and cheese.
  • Veggie Packed: Add a variety of veggies on top of your flatbread pizzas. Try mushrooms, artichokes, zucchini, broccoli, tomatoes, olives, fresh corn, spinach, arugula, etc.
  • Add sauce: Drizzle on some fresh basil-pesto, BBQ sauce, ranch, buffalo sauce, etc.
  • Make garlic bread: Throw on some butter, cheese, garlic, and salt, or use garlic naan as the base (instead of plain naan).
  • Change your cheese: Try a different cheese or a combination of a few types of cheeses.
Storage: Store leftover flatbread pizza in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer at 375ยฐF until warm and crisp. Avoid the microwaveโ€”it makes the crust soft.
