Chick-Fil-A Sauce in 5 Minutes or Less!

Chick-Fil-A is hands-down my boysโ€™ all-time favorite fast food. If they had a choice, theyโ€™d eat it for every single meal.

They love it so much that Iโ€™ve already recreated their famous chicken sandwich, coleslaw, kale salad, chicken tenders, nuggets, and even the chicken salad sandwiches at home.

So of course, I had to tackle their famous dipping sauce too! Now I can whip it up anytime Iโ€™m serving one of those meals. It couldnโ€™t be simpler to make, and it tastes exactly like the original. My kids expect a jar in the fridge at all times, and I love that my homemade version has a much shorter ingredient list than the store-bought bottle.

What Is The Chick-Fil-A Sauce Made Of?

IngredientWhat to Know

Honey roasted BBQ sauceSweet Baby Rayโ€™s Honey BBQยฎ is a great pick and brings a sweet smoky flavor.
Yellow mustardStick with classic yellow mustard. Do not swap with Dijon because the flavor is very different.

How To Make Chick-Fil-A Sauce

Making this recipe couldnโ€™t be easier. Hereโ€™s the quick process:

  1. Measure out the three ingredients into a mixing bowl.
  2. Whisk until smooth and creamy.
  3. Taste and adjust. If you want it sweeter, add a touch more BBQ sauce. If you want it tangier, add a little extra mustard.

Recipe Notes

Note 1: You can find this coleslaw dressing in the refrigerated produce section of the grocery store near other dressings and dips. I havenโ€™t loved the results of this sauce with shelf-stable coleslaw dressings. I prefer Litehouseยฎ or Marieโ€™sยฎ.
Note 2: I like Sweet Baby Rayโ€™s Honey BBQยฎ sauce best in this recipe.

Is There Mayo In Chick-Fil-A Sauce?

Not in my version of the recipe! But, if you arenโ€™t able to find the coleslaw dressing or would prefer the sauce to include mayo, I have also worked through and tested an alternate recipe that tastes nearly identical! Hereโ€™s the breakdown:

  • Salt and pepper.ย A little pinch of salt and pepper goes a long way in rounding out flavors and balancing ingredients.
  • 3/4 cup real mayo. Use full-fat mayoย for the best possible dipping sauce.ย Hellmannโ€™s/Best Foodsยฎย is my favorite.
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard. Again,ย not Dijonโ€“it wonโ€™t taste quite right here.
  • 3 tablespoons honey.ย I wouldnโ€™t consider this sauce overly sweet, but it does have a touch of sweetness. If youโ€™re concerned about that, add the honey slowly and to taste.
  • 2 tablespoons honey BBQ sauce. We like Sweet Baby Rayโ€™s Honey BBQยฎ sauce best in this recipe (not sponsored).
  • Optional: 1 and 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice. The juice adds a nice rounding flavor and a touch of acidity to the sauce.

Excellent, excellent dipping sauce! Chik-Fil-A gave me mustard instead of mustard sauce, so I scrambled to find a taste-alike. Made the mayo version WITH the lemon juice (made a big difference). Instead of pitching the leftover like planned, Iโ€™ve got it in my fridge. This is THE one to make!!!

Is there a substitute for the coleslaw dressing or possibly a home made version? I would prefer not to have to buy something I donโ€™t use day to day..frige space is a pericous thing. Love this idea, going to be making the chicken soon.
