Fruit, Yogurt, Granolaโ€ฆ and Zero Complaints

A few years ago on a road trip, I grabbed yogurt parfaits for my kids at McDonaldโ€™s because it felt like the easiest breakfast option that wasnโ€™t just straight sugar. The funny part? My kids had no clue what a parfait even was.

Once I explained it was basically layers of yogurt, fruit, and granola, they were immediately interested. One bite later and suddenly everyone wanted their โ€œown flavor combination.โ€

Ever since then, yogurt parfaits have become one of my favorite breakfasts to make at home. Theyโ€™re fast, filling, customizable, and honestly feel way more exciting than just handing everyone a bowl of yogurt.

I also love that they work for basically every situation. Quick weekday breakfasts, after-school snacks, meal prep, brunch boards, or even healthier desserts. And because everyone can build their own, there are zero complaints at the table which honestly feels like a miracle some mornings.

Yogurt Parfait Recipe Ingredients

IngredientSwaps & Tips
Vanilla Greek YogurtHoney vanilla Greek yogurt is my favorite. Any yogurt works, but thicker yogurt layers better. Use any leftovers inย Greek Yogurt Pancakes.
Mixed BerriesUse strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, or whatever looks best at the store.
GranolaHomemade granola tastes amazing here, but store-bought works great too.
Honey or Maple SyrupTotally optional depending on how sweet your yogurt is.

How To Make This Yogurt Parfait Recipe

  1. Prep:ย Wash and dry fresh fruit. Let homemade granola cool before layering.
  2. Layering:ย Use thick yogurt, like Greek yogurt. Mix different berries for extra flavor.
  3. Topping:ย Drizzle with honey or maple syrup. Add nuts or chia seeds for crunch.

Variations

  • Switch granola: Try chocolate, peanut butter, no-bake granola, or even cereal.
  • Add chocolate: Layer in mini chocolate chips, brownie bites (like a brownie trifle), crushed Oreos, or cookie pieces.
  • Make it tropical: Add pineapple, mango, toasted coconut, and coconut yogurt.
  • Add peanut butter: Swirl peanut butter between layers with sliced bananas.

Yogurt parfait with a drizzle of honey being added on top, enhancing the sweetness and flavor.

Yogurt Parfait Recipe Cups

Parfaits look best in clear glasses to show the layers. I use small glass or plastic cups.

For meal prep, Mason jars or plastic cups work well. Keep the granola separate so it doesnโ€™t get soggy.

Storage

This Yogurt Parfait recipe is perfect for an on-the-go breakfast or quick snack.

  • Make ahead: Prep the fruit and granola a day ahead, but assemble just before serving so the granola stays crisp.
  • Freezing: Donโ€™t freeze assembled parfaits since they get soggy when thawed. Frozen berries work great though!

Easy Parfait Recipe

My easy and delicious go-to breakfast: Parfait! Layers of fruit, yogurt, granola, and a drizzle of honey make it sweet and satisfying.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Equipment

  • 4 glasses or cups

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries diced
  • 2 cups fresh berries I use a mix of blackberries, raspberries and blueberriesโ€”use whatever you have on hand.
  • 3 cups vanilla yogurt use your favorite flavor! I love honey-vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup granola homemade or store-bought
  • honey or pure maple syrup, optional

Instructionsย

  • Wash and thoroughly dry the fruit. If the fruit is wet at all, it affects the taste of the parfait. Remove stems from any berries and thinly slice the strawberries. Toss all fruit together.
  • Layer 1/3 cup vanilla yogurt into the bottom of 4 cups. Alternate layers of fruit, granola, and yogurt. Repeat layers until glasses are filled to the top.
  • Enjoy right after making to avoid soggy granola. Parfaits donโ€™t sit or store well (see note 1).
Final step! Please let us know how it was by leaving a review.

Recipe Notes

Note 1: You can easily prep ingredients a day ahead (washing and cutting berries) and making the granola, but assemble the parfaits as close to serving as possible. Otherwise, the granola might get soggy and fruit becomes mushy. Donโ€™t freeze this recipe. It doesnโ€™t thaw well and layers become soggy. That said, you can use frozen berries in this parfait.

Iโ€™m going to make this for my teenage sonโ€™s birthday who doesnโ€™t like cake. I was wondering if I could do a vanilla pudding instead. Iโ€™ll check your website for a recipe.
